Landing Pages 5 Second Rule

5 Second Rule for Landing Pages?

5 Second RuleYes, that’s right…there’s even a 5 second rule for your landing (splash) pages.  And the count down starts from the moment their eyes first hit your site!

Did you know that more than 50% of visitors to any given landing page will bail within the first 8 seconds!?!? Yikes!!

That means more than HALF of the people who land on your page won’t even see what you have to say, let alone buy from you. I know this really sucks, but it’s the truth.  But let’s not get too worried yet, there is something you can do about it.

Let’s start off with something rather easy, shall we?

First, grab a friend and ask them to sit in front of your computer. Next, show them your landing page for 5 seconds only. Then, ask your friend the following questions:

  • What was the purpose of that page?
  • What was the call to action?

If your friend doesn’t know, you’ve got some work to do!

Some things you can do (and should be doing) are all simple things. Yet it seems that it is these simple tasks that people forget the most!!

You want to create your page with your CUSTOMER in mind. Ask yourself questions like, “If I was someone wanting to buy this product, what info would I want to see?”

Focus on only ONE message and make it very, very clear.  I see many pages that are stuffed with so much that I am not sure if even they know what they are promoting!

Make your call to action obvious.  You want it to reach out and smack them – POW! – right in the face, but in a nice, kind

Another very important thing to do is to make a few different pages so you can test them. Testing should be one of your TOP things you do in marketing.  If you are unsure of what or how to do this let me know.  Also be sure to subscribe to my blog so you can be aware of my new posts because I will be doing a follow up post on the importance of testing soon!

Until then, have fun creating your new landing pages.
