Does using Youtube really increase your Google search results rankings? If you have googled anything lately, I am sure you have seen, just like I have, that more Youtube videos results are ranking high onto the top of Google’s page.  Ever since Google found a way to monetize  their youtube channels we’ve seen more and more videos ranking high in search results.

If you are wanting to pump up your SEO and reach the top, you should definitely be using videos.  There are many ways you can use videos to do this, from video tutorials to a full “about us” video that explains who you are and what your company is all about.  Take a look to see what  your competition is using or what others in your same field in another state or town have for their sites. Don’t forget to make it your own!

Here is a good video put out by Google that will teach you the basics of getting your youtube video’s to rank high in Google search.

Just throwing video up into youtube will not guarantee to you top the search engine result pages and according to Google, your video’s will only rank well if all factors are present including content quality and hits and ratings.

How to Edit PDF Files without Adobe Acrobat

According to google, there are more than 450 million PDF documents on the Internet.  The PDF file format was originally created by Adobe somewhere in the early 1990′s and has overcome the once popular .doc or DOC format.

Why are PDF Files so Popular?

There are several reasons why PDF files are so popular.  Usually the PDF files are smaller in size than the original source document and they also can be easily preserved in the original formatting.  Another great thing is that you can open a PDF file, that was created using a Windows PC, on a Mac or a Linux machine and your document will still look the same everywhere.

Another thing that people like about the PDF file is that unlike Word and other popular document formats, the contents of the file cannot be changed or modified easily. Yet the biggest advantage is that you can view PDF files on almost any computer (or mobile phone) using the web browser or with the help of free software like Adobe Acrobat Reader or Open Office.

Can We Edit PDF Files?

I know I just wrote above that not being able to change them is what makes PDF Files so great, but it is 2011, right?  :)   PDF Files by default are “read only”,  but there are ways by which you can edit certain elements* of a PDF document for free without requiring the source files or any of the commercial PDF editing tools.

* If you are looking to manipulate the PDF file structure itself like rearranging pages or merging multiple PDFs into one, please refer to the Adobe PDF Guide. This post is here to help you edit or to be able to fill in the file without using Adobe Acrobat.

Here are the ways you can edit PDF Files:

1. Online PDF Editor for Basic Tasks.

There are situations when you’ll need to make only minor changes in a PDF file. For instance, you want to hide your personal phone number from a PDF file before posting it on the web.

You can perform such edits pretty easily with PDF Escape.  With PDF Escape, you can hide parts of a PDF file using the whiteout tool or add annotations with the help of custom shapes, arrows, text boxes and sticky notes. You can also add hyperlinks to other PDF pages or Web documents.

2. Edit PDF Metadata (Author, PDF Title, etc.)

If you would like to edit the meta-data associated with a PDF document, you will want to check out Becy PDFMetaEdit. It’s a free utility that can help you edit details like the PDF document title, author name, creation data, keywords, etc. of any PDF file.

This tool can also be used for encrypting PDF documents such that only users who know the password can read the contents of your PDF files. And since this PDF metadata  bookmarks editor can be executed from the command line, you can use it to update information in multiple PDF files in a batch.

TIP: If you are planning to post your PDF files on the web, you should consider adding proper metadata to all the files as that will help improve the organic rankings of your PDF files in Google search results.

3. Using WORD to Edit Text in a PDF File

You can also use WORD to edit the text in a PDF file if you want to edit large amounts of text in a PDF file but don’t have access to the source documents. All you have to do is convert the PDF file into an editable Word document or an Excel spreadsheet depending on the contents of the PDF.

Then edit these converted PDFs in Microsoft Office (or Google Docs) and export the modified files back into PDF format.

Social media’s popularity continues to grow, connecting people with just about everything from what they watch to what they buy.  Did you know that the value of the time consumers spend online and on social networks and blogs continues to grow.  It is most visible through the influence on purchase decisions. For example; 60 percent of people who use three or more digital means of research for product purchases learned about a specific brand or retailer from a social networking site. My family and I research things before we make our purchases, don’t you?  One phrase you constantly hear around our house is “Google it!”.

Here’s a list of the 5 hot media places you’ll want to use daily!

1. Consumers still cling to email. There’s a battle of those who believe that emails work and those who don’t. But I am a firm believer that when you write them correctly, they work very well. I read in an article that these are the online activities attracting users;  email, with 7.6 percent, followed by portals, videos/movies and search each coming in at around 4 percent. Even less time is consumed in instant messaging (3.3 percent), software manufacturers (3.2 percent), classified auctions (2.9 percent) and current events and global news (2.6 percent.)
2. Facebook is king. Americans spend more time on Facebook than any other website, with figures showing more than 140 million visitors in May. That’s nearly triple the 50 million visits logged by the second-highest site, Blogger, which is a hosting platform for individual blogs that use the Blogger domain.
3. Mobile social networking is rising. While the majority of consumers still access social media through the computer (97 percent), more than a third nowadays (37 percent) are also doing so by mobile phones, with social networking apps gaining favor among such phoners. And surprisingly, more than twice as many people 55 and older are visiting social networking sites on their mobile phones than did so last year.
4. Peers are powerful. The report shows that active adult social networkers tend to place a premium on their peers’ online recommendations when making purchases.  These Active adult social networkers — when measured side-by-side with the average Internet user — are 75 percent more likely to be big spenders on music and 47 percent more likely to spend bundles on clothing, shoes and accessories.
5. Other social networking sites/forums. With new places popping up every day, it’s hard to keep up with them all. I bet if I asked 25 different marketers, I’d get different answers to their top spots.  Which ever you chose, make them work for you.  Staying active with a few is better than being non-active but a member of them all. It is wise to join them, fill out your profile and let others know that you are most active or can be found at ______ (<—fill in the blank to let them know where to find you).  Don’t forget to leave your contact details like skype, your cell, google voice phone number or other voice messaging service, email address, ect. so they have some way of connecting with you!

Before I close this post, I’d like to share one more thing. For me,it’s one tool I constantly recommend to everyone online – marketers or not – is skype. Why?  Focus leads to clarity, which our brain absolutely loves. Clarity means you know exactly what you want.  Here, let me give you an example.  You want to make a lot of money.  Instead of just saying;  ”I want to make a whole lot of money” you should say “I want to earn $25,000 per month in net profits by September 2012″.   The more specific and clearer you are, the better your brain will find ways to achieving it.

Think about it. “A lot of money” is very vague.  How much is a lot of money? $1,000? $10,000? $100,000? $1,000,000?  When you really focus on what you want, your brain will find ways to focus on the most important tasks that you need to do in order to achieve your goals. You then focus in doing these important tasks and ignore the rest.  It’s amazing what our brain can do if we set things up correctly!

Just remember that Less is more.  By having multiple goals it spreads out your focus, and makes it less likely that you’ll complete any of the goals.  I am not saying that it’s not possible, it’s just  much more difficult.

You also need to remind yourself DAILY what your goals are. You can’t just think about your goals, you should write them down and also say them out loud.  Doing this will force you to give deeper and more meaningful thoughts about your goals, and hence provide your brain with clearer and more specific goals. DAILY is the keyword here.  If it’s important, make it BE important!

How Do We Change Them?Increase Your SEO Traffic With One Easy Step….

Change Your Permalinks In WordPress

Permalinks are very important for Search Engine Optimization, so you want them to be as SEO friendly as you can. It’s funny, I have come across some ” BIG time marketers” or “Gurus” like some like to call them that have wordpress blogs yet don’t take advantage of this easy little step! So be sure to take the time to do this yourself.

What are permalinks?

Permalinks is short for permanent links.  Permanent links are links that point to your individual blog posts and pages. By default on wordpress these links looks something like this:  http://nicoleacosta.com/?p=571

Can you tell what this post is about just by looking at this link?  For all you know it could be a link to something you are not at all interested in, or worse…to some never ending page of MUST BUY now to some product o system that they are trying to sell you!

But by taking the time to change your permalink settings, that same link will look like this: http://nicoleacosta.com/how-to-change-permalinks-in-wordpress

Why Should You Change Your Permalinks?

With that link everyone knows what it is all about.  But most importantly, so do the search engines and bots that scan behind the scenes searching for keywords to send people to the right spots!

After all, that is what you are wanting, right?  For your hard work to be seen and shared with others.  Make it as easy as possible.  That is one of my main focuses in everything I do in my life; online and offline!  The easier the better for all of us.

How Do You Change Them?

I thought you’d never ask!

First you need to log into your wordpess admin area. On the left side under the Dashboard you will see an option for “Settings“. Once you click on it, it will open up and you’ll see more choices in blue text.

Look for the the option called “Permalinks” , click on it and you will be taken to a section of your blog that will allow you to change your permalink settings.

On this page, you will be able to see a default option that’s selected right now as well as several other common options. All of these options are usually popular with bloggers, but not often a good choice for a content site. Many leave this alone, but as I told you above, it’s better to change it for the purpose of SEO.

I prefer to have the title of my post be the name of my link. I either use it by itself like I am doing on this blog here (not that the file name is simply “/how-to-change-permalinks-in-wordpress/” or with an html extension (in which case my url would become /how-to-change-permalinks-in-wordpress.html ).

Note: Either option is fine. I usually have the first one without the .html, again for simplicity!

So, here’s how the permalink settings area looks like when you first log in:

All you need to do is click on the radio button next to “Custom Structure” to highlight it, then hover over the empty white box on the other side and type in ONE of these:

/%postname%

/%postname%.html

So it looks like this:

Last but not least, click on “Save Changes” and you’re all done.
